Why Texas Leads the Nation in Construction Spending: 2025 Data and What It Means for General Contractors
Presented by Billdr
Everything’s bigger in Texas—including construction spending. In 2025, Texas leads the nation with $50.33 billion in total construction investment, outpacing California and New York. The boom is driven by rapid population growth, major corporate relocations like Tesla and Oracle, record infrastructure investment, and strong housing demand across Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Houston.
For general contractors, this growth means opportunity—and competition. The most active sectors are commercial, industrial, and infrastructure, but success depends on overcoming labor shortages, managing material costs, and leveraging technology for efficiency. With continued migration, business expansion, and government spending, Texas’s construction surge shows no sign of slowing. The takeaway: the future of building in America is being written in Texas.
Tech Giants Unveil 5 New Data Center Sites
Presented by: Construction Dive
OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle announced five new data center sites across Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, and the Midwest, pushing the Stargate initiative toward its $500 billion, 10-gigawatt goal ahead of schedule. The program now represents nearly 7 GW of planned capacity and over $400 billion in total investment.
Texas continues to lead the expansion. New sites include Milam County (with SB Energy) and Shackelford County (with Oracle), alongside the flagship Abilene campus, which began operations earlier this year and delivered the first Nvidia GB200 racks in June. Meanwhile, a Lordstown, Ohio facility broke ground and is set to go online in 2026.
The initiative aligns with the Trump administration’s fast-track permitting push for AI infrastructure and signals an unprecedented construction boom for U.S. contractors. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted, “AI can only fulfill its promise if we build the compute to power it — we’re already making historic progress.”
